Men’s Bible Breakfast

All men are invited to come to Men’s Bible Breakfast, every Tuesday, 6:30-8:00am. We are just starting a new study on the book of Hebrews. Come, invite a friend or co-worker, and leave whenever you need to in order to get to work on time! Please call Mike Rose at 686-9885 for complete details.

Next weekend, May 17-18, will be "New Member Weekend." We will receive nine persons into membership: Maureen Enget, Ron and Denice Fisher and their children Anne and Jack, Helen Gould, Amanda Hobson, Greg and Pam Nichols, and Patty McRae.

Immediately following 10:30am worship on May 18, we will have a New Member Barbeque to welcome these families and for all to meet and greet them! Faith will provide hamburgers and hot dogs; the congregation is asked to bring side dishes, salads, and desserts.

Youth Mission Giving Ladder

The Youth are on a mission, and we need your help! In June 2008, 11 youth and three adults are going to the Wind River Indian Reservation in Ethete, Wyoming to "share the love of Jesus" through our actions and words, serving people in His name by helping with home repair. You can participate in this mission trip by donating needed tools, such as safety goggles, work gloves, paint brushes, paint rollers, screwdrivers, hammers, tape measures, and more! Check out the ladders in the entry area to see what is needed. If you can help, take a card or two and bring back the items and place them in the wheelbarrow by Sunday, May 25.

Thank you for your support of the Youth of Faith and the people of the Wind River Indian Reservation as we "share the love of Jesus" through our words and actions this Summer!

Projects for Volunteers

Several jobs are available around the Faith property for handy volunteers

Install base molding in two Sunday School classrooms

Weed, feed, and seed the lawn (all Summer)

Clean-up and trim the property behind the building

Help with flower beds

Please contact Joel Ruprect, Property Board Chairman, (687-4201) for more information or to volunteer!

Service Opportunity

We are seeking additional volunteers to serve at Faith as Ushers, Lay Readers, Greeters, and Bulletin Folders!

Ushers assist with worship by greeting worship attenders, answering questions, handing out worship materials, and assisting with the offering collection and communion service.

Lay Readers assist with worship by reading Scripture lessons during worship.

Greeters assist with worship by greeting and assisting guests and members as they enter for worship, answering questions, and providing directions.

Bulletin Folders serve on Friday mornings, by stapling, folding, and assembling the worship folders each week.

Please call the church office (687-2303) or email (faithwp@mindspring.com) to be included on the rotation for Usher, Lay Reader, or Greeter; just show up any Friday morning at 9:00 am to help with Bulletin Folding! Many thanks for your cheerful service!

The Ladies Guild of Rock of Ages Lutheran Church, Colorado Springs, invites the women of Faith to their annual Salad Supper on Tuesday, May 20, 6:00 pm. Please RSVP by May 15 to Susie Briggs (475-1485) or Susan Avila (487-7273).

Faith Lutheran Prep School

Faith School is open to all preschoolers in our community!

We are now accepting enrollments for Faith School for School Year 2008-2009. We offer classes for 3-5 year old students, either 5, 3, or 2 mornings a week, depending upon age and class grouping. Tuition for this year has been frozen at last year’s rates: $240.00 per month for Kindergarten Prep; $145.00 per month for Mon-Wed-Fri preschool; and $98.00 per month for Tues-Thur preschool; plus a one-time $50.00 registration fee for all students.

Nominating Committee

Here is an opportunity to serve!

Some terms of office for church officers are to expire soon. We are now forming a Nominating Committee to seek out candidates for nomination to elected church office. Offices to be filled include: Congregational Vice-President, Congregational Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Financial Secretary, all Committee Chairmen (Boards of Christian Education, Evangelism, Property, Faith School, Social Ministry, Stewardship, and Youth Ministry), and half of the Elders. If you wish to serve in this short-term commitment on the Nominating Committee, please call Dan Crowbridge at 686-0236.

Do you know someone who might wish to serve in a church office? Please fill out the form in today’s worship folder and place it in the offering plate as it is passed.

Vacation Bible School

VBS is open to all in the community! Invite your neighbors and friends!

Guess what’s swinging up ahead? Rainforest Adventure Vacation Bible School, for kids preschool through 6th grade! May 11 is the first day of registration. VBS is June 16-20, 9:00am to 12:00 noon. Join us for a rainforest program of faith-filled fun! Rainforest Adventure invites kids to share the good news of Jesus’ love for us by being caretakers of all God has given us. At Rainforest Adventure you will hear stories about Jesus, make cool crafts, sing fun songs, play zany games, eat super snacks, and make lots of new friends! For registration information, call Denise Symes in the church office at 687-2303 or email the church office at faithwp@mindspring.com See you at the Rainforest Adventure!

Also, start thinking rainforest! We’ll need lots of "jungle" decorations. Start saving your carpet roll tubes, newspaper tubes, jute-type ropes, colored tissue paper and construction paper, paper streamers, rubber or plastic bugs, frogs, snakes, lizards, and tropical animals (stuffed, inflatable, etc.) We also need lots of green fabrics and table cloths. Potted plants that can be borrowed for the week to give us a rainforest atmosphere would be appreciated.

We are still in need of teen and adult volunteers. VBS is always a busy and fun time of Bible lessons, crafts, snacks, music, outdoor play, and much more! Please prayerfully consider how you might serve the families of our community by volunteering at VBS. Please call Candy Comer at 686-1823 for more information or to volunteer.

VBS Volunteer Meeting

Our first meeting for all VBS teachers and helpers is this Thursday, May 15, 6:30 pm. If you’ve already volunteered, or if you just want more information before volunteering, please come! Please call Lisa Ross (575-0269) or Candy Comer (686-1823) for more details.

Stewardship Opportunity Sunday

On the second Sunday of each month, we are encouraging the members of Faith to give an offering equal to the date. May 11 is the second Sunday of the month, so we are reminded to give an offering equal to 11% of our income for the week.

Giving is part of life. We probably give many people birthday, anniversary, Valentine’s Day, and Christmas gifts. As Christians, we also give to God who first gave to us. In contrast to our giving to other people, our gifts to God should represent our first and best because He is our creator and redeemer. Our giving to God reminds us of His sovereignty and expresses our gratitude to Him for what Jesus did on the cross for us. "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16).

Search Committee

The next meeting of the Pastoral Search Committee is Tuesday, May 20, 6:30pm. All Search Committee meetings are held in an open format for general member input. For more information, please call Norm Steen at 687-8711.

Vacancy Committee

Under the Faith constitution, a Vacancy Committee is formed for the duration of a pastoral vacancy, consisting of one member of the Board of Elders, one member of Church Council, and one staff member. Our Vacancy Committee members are: Mike Wnorowski (Elder), Paul Magnuson (Council), and Mary Heller (staff). The Vacancy Committee, in coordination and consultation with a Vacancy Pastor, is charged with overseeing the day-to-day operations of Faith. Please feel free to contact any member of the Vacancy Committee with your questions.

Bulletin Folding

Thanks to all who helped fold bulletins last week! Volunteers are needed this Friday morning, May 16, at 9:00 a.m. Come for fellowship and service!

Children’s Bulletins

Every week we have bulletins for children ages 3-6 years old and 7-12 years old. All children are invited to take these bulletins, especially for them!

Large Print Bulletins

Large print bulletins are available each week for anyone who would prefer to use a larger print format. Please ask an usher is you desire to use the larger print bulletin and hymnal.

Attendance Registration

In the bulletin today and every week, you will find an attendance registration card. In order to better care for our members and guests, we are asking everyone to register your attendance in worship every week. You may place your completed card in the offering plate as it is passed or hand it to an usher following worship.

Change for Faith

Keep that spare change coming!

You are invited to save your loose change from your daily activities, bring it to Faith, and place it in the large collection jar. Your spare change can increase the impact we are making with our ministry activities. Please call the church office at 687-2303 for more information.

Used Printer Cartridges

Faith Preschool is collecting your used-up, ready-to-be-discarded inkjet and laser printer cartridges and old, unwanted cell phones. Why?? Because we can earn playground equipment by turning in these items for recycling! For extra benefit for the preschool, you might even want to collect these used items from your place of business. Be kind to the environment and help us to earn playground equipment. Look for our collection box in the back hallway near the member mailboxes. Thank you for your donations!!

Mission News

LCMS missionaries in Russia share, "On March 17, Deacon Yuriy Poddelskiy, his assistant Viktor Vovchenko, and a literature teacher taught an extra-curricular class on the Bible in the form of a quiz for 5th- and 6th-graders at the district Petropavlovka gymnasium in rural Buryatia. A help in this outreach activity was the 1996 school textbook that has a section on the Bible, which it thankfully does not include among myths and legends, but presents as a true story and a masterpiece of the world's literature. All the 25 schoolchildren who attended the class received as a gift a set of seven Christian books including the Gospel of John. The winners of the various levels of the quiz additionally received children's Bibles in Buryat (a local language), New Testaments in Russian, and other literature. The top winner was 5th-grader Viktoria Shishmaryova. Among other prizes, she received a Bible, Luther's Small Catechism, a first place testimonial, and a box of chocolates."
