Acolyte Information:

1.) The Youth of Faith serve as acolytes for each worship service. You will light and extinguish the candles at the start and conclusion of the service, handle the offering plates, assist with communion, and help the Pastor in other ways as he leads the congregation in worship.

2.) Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of worship. Check with the Pastor for any special instructions.

3.) The acolyte robes and staff are in the sacristy (the small room behind the kitchen). Put on an acolyte robe and check that the acolyte staff is working properly -- if it is not, see an usher or elder for help. Wait just outside the double doors to the worship center for the Pastor or an elder to tell you to start. Have an elder or usher light the acolyte staff.

4.) If you are unable to serve on your scheduled day, please switch with another acolyte and call the church office (687-2303) with the information!

Lighting Candles:

Communion Sundays: If the large single Christ candle is on the altar, always light that candle first, then light the two plain single candles on the altar, and then light all the candles in the two diagonal candle holders on the stone wall. Begin extinguishing the candles at the start of the second verse of the closing hymn. Begin with all the candles in the two diagonal candle holders, then extinguish the two plain single candles on the altar, and then extinguish the large single Christ candle on the altar. Just remember: the large single Christ candle is always first to be lit and last to be extinguished. Check with an usher or elder if you are unsure about what to do. Please call the church office (687-2303) if you would like to schedule a practice session before you acolyte for the first time.

Non-communion Sundays: If the large single Christ candle is on the altar, always light that candle first, and then light all the candles in the two diagonal candle holders on the stone wall. The two plain single candles on the altar are not lit for non-communion services. Begin extinguishing the candles at the start of the second verse of the closing hymn. Begin with all the candles in the two diagonal candle holders, and then extinguish the large single Christ candle on the altar. Just remember: the large single Christ candle is always first to be lit and last to be extinguished. Check with an usher or elder if you are unsure about what to do. Please call the church office (687-2303) if you would like to schedule a practice session before you acolyte for the first time.
